The Declaration of Independence sounded from the steps of the Kendall County Courthouse as members of the Kendall County Bar Association, Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, and members of VFW Post 688 took turns reading sections of it Friday to celebrate the 245th anniversary of the founding of our country.

Veterans Day: VFW pays tribute to those who have served

Andrew Camplen, commander of the Boerne VFW Post 688, reminded the couple hundred individuals in attendance at the organization’s annual Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Plaza that Wednesday marked the 102nd anniversary of the end of World War I.

Senior leaders, honorary commanders, serve it up

"It's important to me because, during my service, I remember organizations coming in, the support of the community, and I remember how it made me feel,” said Honorary Commander Andrew Camplen from the Pvt. Bruno Phillip Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 688, post commander. “Being in the service, being away from family and away from home, but still having that love of people coming in and providing something like a Thanksgiving meal, or a care package, is truly dear to my heart, and that's why I'm here today.”

Parades honor veterans

Honorary commanders tour Mission Support Group

“It reminds me of my own service and puts a smile of my face to see so many people out here doing so many wonderful things for America and serving the Air Force so well,” Camplen said. “It is such a privilege and honor to be here with everybody. It is amazing.”
